His 12 years old son, Nima Ebrahimzadeh is diagnosed with
cancer is in hospital.
Behnam was arrested for participating in the May Day in 2009, and
released later. Thirteen months later, in June 2010 he were arrested in
Laleh Park in Tehran and severely beaten, so that his chest broke and he
was taken to the notorious section 209 of Evin prison. He was under
physical and psychological torture for four months. His chest, left leg and
left ear were seriously damaged. Prison executioners wanted to him to
confess against himself in a television interview. Behnam absolutely
refused and went on hunger strike to protest the brutal torturers and
interrogators. After fifteen days of hunger strike, he was transferred to
section 350 of Evin prison. He was denied at the time of his visitation
rights and telephone contact with the family, his wife and his son.
After months of uncertainty in a court by judgment of Salavati famous to Judge Death, he was sentenced to 20 years
in prison and ten years of exile and deprived of any social activity in charges of activity against national security
without being able to defend himself and without lawyer is to defend him.
In result of international protests and complaints to the legal community, his case was referred to another branch of
court and his sentence was reduced to five years in prison. But this ruling was not definitive and he was returned to
prison without a definitive ruling.
In this period, Behnam family, his wife and son were constantly harassed by security forces. For each visit, a trip to
Tehran within twelve hours, he would meet in the cabin for only 25 minutes.
In the meantime, his twelve years old son, Nima was diagnosed with cancer and admitted in the Mahak hospital.
Behnam situation was extremely difficult. Finally by the bail of 200 million tomans short-term leave he was able to
be about his sick son for a few days.
Behnam short vacation ended. Prison officials did not agree with the extension of his leave and he was returned to
prison again.
Behnam Ebrahimzadeh said in a video message on his way back to prison:
“Despite my desire, I return to prison. The prison where I have to spend years behind bars. I have committed no
crime! My crime was to defend human dignity and humanity! My crime was to defend political prisoner, workers,
children and women rights. I have to pay for a crime that have not committed. It is wrong to return to prison. I have
to leave Nima alone in hospital. I have to leave my wife who is both mother and father of Nima and takes care of him
24 hours. I ask all who believe in freedom to please do not let me and my family alone. My question to the world is:
Is it self-defense, defense of workers may lead to imprisonment and deprivation of liberty, and persecution of my
family? I miss my wife and my son, Nima. . . “
Campaign to Defend Behnam and Nima Ebrahimzadeh in Göteborg
By Children First Now
More Info.
