“Saving the children of asylum seekers”
Suffering “Apathy” syndrome
“Apathy is the
complete lack of emotion or motivation. It is a common reaction to
stress where it manifests as learned helplessness and is commonly
associated with depression. It can also reflect a non-pathological
disinterest in things one does not consider important.”
The children of asylum seekers in Sweden are facing death due to
physical, psychological and emotional danger that they have been forced
to face by the Swedish government.
Over 150 children of asylum seekers in Sweden are suffering from an
illness called Apathy. These children have lost their interest for
living. They have lost their hope in life, consequently facing complex
physical & emotional health complications, including serious heart
conditions and kidney failure.
These children are the members of families of asylum seekers who are
either in detention or in hiding for fear of deportation. The asylum
seekers who are in hiding lack access to basic human needs such as:
proper nutrition, shelter, hygiene, education, recreation and
socialization.
There is no need to say that it is the responsibility of the state to
make sure that all children receive special care and assistance. It is
the duty of the Swedish government to provide the families of asylum
seekers with services and facilities that are in keeping with today’s
norms and standards. There is no need to say that it is the duty of
Swedish government to ensure to the maximum extent possible the survival
and development of the child. No child should be excluded from medical
care, access to school and social programs.
If you are in agreement with us that the rights of the child take
precedence over any national, racial, economic, political, ideological,
and religious consideration or interest. If you believe that the rights
of the child are universal. If you think it is the responsibility of
society to guarantee the well-being of any child, regardless of his/her
family condition, then join us to inform all concerned individuals and
society as a whole about the plight of asylum seekers in hiding. Join
this Campaign to protest against violations of the most basic rights of
children of asylum seekers suffering “Apathy” syndrome in Sweden.
We demand:
1- Immediate residency permission for all asylum seekers who have
children with “Apathy” syndrome
2- The re-opening of files of all asylum seekers in hiding and an
immediate halt to deportation
We call on all concern individuals, organisations and media for their
direct participation in raising public awareness on the problems that
asylum seekers face in Sweden. It is our duty towards Children’s rights
to assure everyone that campaigns such as this will have a significant
impact on the Swedish government’s policy making.
By signing this petition you defend the universal rights of the Child.
