An open
letter to The Nigerian’s government
To President
Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan
The
news of the more than 200 girl’s abduction from a Nigerian school last
month by the Islamists extremists’ armed group Boko Haram has simply
shocked the world. A month has passed since the girls were kidnapped,
and your behaviour as well as Patience Jonathan´s, the first lady, by
wasting time downplaying the crisis and lying about these girls' fates
had added to the consternation. This happened when you, along with your
government should be reaching out for help.
Your
government had subjected the families’ of the abducted girls who call on
Nigerian’s government to help secure the safe release of the girls, to
threat and harassment. The international community has accused you and
your government of not acting swiftly or efficiently enough to protect
the kidnapped girls.
There
is documented evidence that the military authorities in the state Borno
were aware of the terrorist attack, but the military did not show any
preventive measures in order to pursue the terrorists’ organization Boko
Haram.
You
should know that the world stands with the girls’ families in demanding
their immediate release.
We
undersigned, Children First Now, the International Campaign for
Children’s rights call on the Nigerian government and demand authorities
do everything in their power to secure the girls' release immediately.
This is your and Nigerian’s government task and responsibility.
