A success and a step forward to make child circumcision illegal in Sweden

On Wednesday, February 19 2014 the annual Meeting of Save the Children Organization, in Sweden part Stockholm,was held in the main building of this organization.

Karim Shamohammadi one of the member of the organization and the responsible of Children first Now Institute participated in the meeting.

Elisabeth Dahlin,Save the Children Organization chairman of board of directors was the speaker opening session and mentioned to the proceedings and intervention by the organization to defend children’s rights particularly the critical situation for children in Syria and Philippines. She highlighted the tragedy of child labor and mentioned to the activities of the organization to defend the rights of refugee children.

In evaluating, Karim Shamohammadi raised a question about ban circumcision of children boys. He requested to make it a main issue in the meeting and asked the overwhelming response by the organization.

It was focused in the meeting by suggesting of Lollo Lindahl. In agreement with Karim shamohammadi, she emphasized according to the valid medical researchthe circumcision can cause harm to children. She expressed it is an offensive to the privacy of the child. Then she said: “We recommend this procedure when children get adult and decide by self. Parents and supervisors are not allowed to decide about this irreversible surgery instead of them.”

Then Karim Shamohammadi answered to some questions like “the culture”, “What about the rights of parents”. He said children don’t know anything about culture and religion and don’t believe on them when they are born. If we believe the religion is a private matter, it should be tolerated that a child becomes adult and decide to do the irreversible surgery of circumcision related to religion or other. This includes children in the church to be baptized.

In the vote the proposal of prohibition of circumcision was approved in the annual meeting of Stockholm and it will be discussed at the national level of Save the Children Organization. It will be finally offered in the parliament of Sweden.

This is a brilliant success and beginning for the Children First Now Institute in defense of children rights, ban of circumcision and removing the religion power from children life.  Children First Now Institute actually has fought against circumcision of children in order to children rights, so congratulates to all who have fought for children rights.
